Many GSC products, including our camshafts, are designed, machined, and finished in-house at our facility in South Carolina, USA. We maintain strict quality control throughout the manufacturing process.
How long has GSC been in business?
GSC Power-Division has been serving the performance automotive industry for over 20 years, supplying racers, engine builders, tuners, and enthusiasts worldwide.
Do you sell directly to consumers?
Yes. We sell directly through our website and also through an extensive network of authorized dealers and distributors worldwide.
Camshafts
What makes GSC Power-Division camshafts different?
GSC Power-Division camshafts are engineered specifically for high-performance applications using proprietary lobe designs, premium billet materials, and advanced manufacturing processes. Every camshaft profile is developed to maximize airflow, power, durability, and valvetrain stability for its intended application.
How do I choose the correct camshaft for my application?
The best camshaft depends on your engine configuration, turbocharger size, intended RPM range, fuel type, cylinder head setup, and horsepower goals. If you're unsure, contact our technical support team for recommendations.
Will aftermarket camshafts increase horsepower?
Yes. Properly matched camshafts can significantly improve airflow, power, torque, and RPM capability. Actual gains depend on the overall engine combination.
Do I need valve springs with aftermarket camshafts?
In many cases, yes. More aggressive camshaft profiles require upgraded valve springs to maintain valve control at higher RPMs and boost levels. Product pages will indicate whether upgraded springs are required.
Can I use GSC camshafts with OEM valve springs?
Some Stage 1 camshafts are compatible with OEM springs under certain conditions. Always verify spring requirements listed on the product page before installation.
Do I need a tune after installing camshafts?
Most performance camshaft installations benefit from ECU recalibration. A proper tune helps maximize power, drivability, and reliability.
Are your camshafts billet?
Yes. GSC performance camshafts are manufactured from premium forged billet cores for maximum strength and durability.
What is BLACK ISE?
BLACK ISE is GSC's advanced surface treatment process designed to reduce friction, and enhance durability in high-performance valvetrain environments.
Valve Springs & Retainers
Why should I upgrade my valve springs?
Upgraded valve springs provide greater valve control at high RPM, higher boost pressures, and with more aggressive camshaft profiles. This helps prevent valve float and improves reliability.
What are the benefits of conical valve springs?
Conical valve springs offer reduced retainer mass, improved natural frequency, greater stability, and improved high-RPM performance compared to traditional cylindrical springs or beehive springs.
Do your spring kits include retainers?
Many GSC spring kits include titanium retainers. Refer to individual product descriptions for complete kit contents.
Can I reuse my factory retainers?
Only if specifically stated. Most performance applications should utilize the retainers recommended for the spring package.
Valves
What materials are GSC valves made from?
Depending on the application, GSC valves are manufactured from premium stainless steel or high-temperature super alloys designed to withstand extreme heat and cylinder pressures.
When should I upgrade to super alloy exhaust valves?
Super alloy exhaust valves are recommended for turbocharged, supercharged, nitrous, endurance racing, and other extreme applications where exhaust temperatures are elevated.
Are GSC valves compatible with OEM valve locks and retainers?
Many applications are designed to work with OEM-style locks and retainers, but compatibility should always be verified prior to installation.
Valve Guides
Why would I replace valve guides during a cylinder head build?
Worn guides can negatively affect valve sealing, and valve stability. Replacing guides during a performance rebuild helps ensure proper valve concentricity to the valve seat and long-term reliability.
What material are GSC valve guides made from?
GSC valve guides are manufactured from premium manganese bronze alloys that provide excellent wear resistance and heat transfer characteristics.
Lifters & Tappets
Should I replace lifters when installing new camshafts?
In most cases, yes. Installing new lifters or tappets with new camshafts helps ensure proper wear patterns and long-term reliability.
What makes GSC DLC-coated lifters different?
GSC DLC-coated lifters feature an extremely refined surface finish and advanced DLC coating designed to reduce friction, improve wear resistance, and enhance durability under extreme operating conditions.
Do you offer hydraulic lifters?
Yes. GSC offers hydraulic lifter solutions for select engine platforms.
Installation & Technical Support
Do you provide installation instructions?
Many GSC products use the same sequence as the factory OEM parts they replace. The best resource for instructions should be the factory service manual.
Do I need to check piston-to-valve clearance?
Yes. Whenever installing aftermarket camshafts, especially in performance applications that have aftermarket pistons, piston-to-valve clearance should be verified during engine assembly.
Do I need adjustable cam gears?
Some applications benefit from adjustable cam gears for dialing in cam timing and optimizing performance. Consult your engine builder or tuner for recommendations.
Can GSC provide custom camshaft recommendations?
Yes. Our team can recommend camshaft profiles based on your engine combination, fuel type, boost level, RPM range, and horsepower goals.
Orders & Shipping
How quickly will my order ship?
In-stock items ship within 1-2 business days. Special-order or made-to-order products may require additional lead time.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. GSC ships products worldwide through multiple shipping carriers and distribution partners.
How can I track my order?
Tracking information is automatically provided once your order has shipped.
Can I modify or cancel my order?
Orders may be modified or canceled before shipment. Please contact customer service as soon as possible.
Warranty & Returns
Do GSC products include a warranty?
Yes. GSC products are covered by a limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Please review our Warranty Policy for complete details.
Will racing void my warranty?
Products used in racing or competition environments are subject to conditions outlined in our warranty policy. Performance applications inherently involve risks beyond normal operating conditions.
Can I return a product if I ordered the wrong part?
Uninstalled products in new condition may be eligible for return according to our Returns & Refunds Policy.
Does GSC cover engine damage?
GSC's warranty covers defects in the product itself. Consequential damages, including engine damage, labor, towing, or vehicle downtime, are not covered.
Technical Questions We Hear Every Day
How much valve spring pressure do I need?
Required spring pressure depends on RPM, boost level, valve weight, rocker ratio, camshaft profile, and intended use. There is no universal answer.
Is bigger camshaft always better?
No. The best camshaft is the one that matches the engine combination and intended use. Oversized camshafts often sacrifice drivability and performance in the usable RPM range.
Can I run more RPM with upgraded valve springs?
Valve springs are only one part of the equation. Safe RPM capability also depends on camshaft design, valvetrain mass, valve material, retainers, rocker arms, and overall engine design.
How much horsepower can your products support?
Many GSC valvetrain packages are used in applications ranging from mild street builds to world-record drag racing programs exceeding 20 horsepower per cubic inch.
